Puzzle, Music Trivia

An 8-bit arcade music quiz game where you guess song titles using emojis

Inspired by I wanted to make a game that anyone in the world could play together — something built around the pop songs I grew up with. The pixel-art look of old game cartridges felt like the right fit to bring back that nostalgic feeling. As a non-native English speaker myself, I knew typos would happen, so the game forgives small spelling mistakes. And for players who'd rather sing than type, I added a voice mode — you can solve any puzzle by just saying the answer out loud.

If you play the practice game a bit, you'll start to recognize the songs. There are so many songs that a lot of practice is required, but it's fascinating to see the ones I know appear like this. When playing on PC, the cute mini-games at the top, where the protagonist defeats enemies and gains luck, are also a small pleasure. With the ability to use phrases like "I don't know" when speaking, if the game is refined a bit more, it seems possible to play group games with bets later on.

Loved the concept of the game. However, I had a hard time because I'm not familiar at all with the songs presented. Maybe creating sections dedicated to specific genres or languages could make this concept work more broadly

The game has a structure that would immensely benefit from a multilingual architecture. Adding a language selector to the home screen that alters the music database would make all the difference. Considering the current ease of software development, creating localized data tables is not a major technical obstacle. Imagine the potential for audience engagement if there were an option to try and guess classic Brazilian songs—from MPB to national rock—translated into emojis. This simple expansion of regional packages would transform the project from a simple niche into a global party game. Verdict: 7.0/10 Emoji Beats is technically agile, and the implementation of voice recognition directly in the browser is a remarkable success. However, by not offering multiple language options, the game stifles its own potential and limits the fun to a restricted audience. It's an excellent base, but one that urgently needs cultural and linguistic expansion to be truly enjoyed by everyone.

Fun game although I’m terrible at it. I’m glad it gives the name of the artist but it would also be kinda cool if there was an extreme mode that didn’t give the artist name but maybe had the songs in categories, 90’s pop, Christmas, songs from movies, etc.
